The Alcazaba is the best-preserved Moorish fortress in Spain and the easiest way to understand 1,000 years of Málaga history. Above it sits the Castillo de Gibralfaro, connected by a fortified corridor.
Tickets. Buy combined tickets (Alcazaba + Gibralfaro) at the entrance or online — €5.50 combined, free Sundays after 14:00.
Best route. Start at the Alcazaba entrance next to the Roman Theatre. Walk the gardens up, then take the corridor to Gibralfaro. Coming back down through Paseo Don Juan de Temboury gives you the best photos.
When to go. Open 9:00–20:00 in summer. Arrive at opening or after 17:00 to avoid heat and cruise crowds.
Sunset. The Gibralfaro mirador faces west — golden hour over the port and bullring is unmissable. Bring water; the climb is steep.
